Frayed

i got us matching bracelets when we started college.

i always kept mine clean and safely put it in my velvet jewelry box every night.

it’s still in perfect condition,

as if I bought it yesterday.

you on the other hand wore it in the shower and tossed it

haphazardly on your dresser before bed.

the chord frayed within the month.

i can’t help but see the irony in that now.
